Dennis Kucinich Knows Crazy When He Sees It
By Chuck Hyde, Editor of StandBesideHer.com
I have to give Dennis Kucinich, Democratic Presidential candidate, credit for one thing. He continues to remind us that politics in the US can be entertaining. If there has ever been a presidential campaign in which we need entertainment this is the one. With a lackluster, to be kind, GOP field and the prospects of Hillary Clinton being our next president we need the comic relief of Mr. Kucinich to keep us off Prozac.
Mr. Kucinich has called President George Bush crazy because of his stated concerns about Iran attempting to obtain a nuclear weapon. President Bush has raised the possibility that Iran’s ongoing attempt could precipitate World War III. While this scenario is not likely, it is also not at all far-fetched and therefore does not make him “crazy”. Iran having a nuclear weapon would be devastating for the US, Israel, and the rest of the world. If they did not use it themselves, which considering the hateful rhetoric coming from their secular and religious leaders, cannot be ruled out, they would certainly make it available to others equally dangerous. Mr. Kucinich though believes President Bush is unstable for proposing the WWIII scenario though, claiming “I seriously believe we have to start asking questions about his mental health.” and “There’s a lot of people who need care. He might be one of them.” (both quotes from Brietbart.com)
This unfortunately puts Mr. Kucinich squarely in line with the beliefs of a large part of the Democratic electorate who thinks that the US, under George Bush, is always wrong and bullies the rest of the world. There is a strong desire among the majority of the left to return to the good old days of Bill Clinton in which we let the rest of the world do as it pleases, irregardless of the consequences or dangers for the US, and we utilize a do-nothing approach to diplomacy. This worked well for Mr. Clinton and the US except for all of the unanswered terrorist attacks leading up to the murder of 3,000 innocent victims on 9/11/2001.
Mr. Kucinich, on the other hand would certainly bring stability and sanity to US foreign policy. Putting aside his apparent lack of concern about Iran, we have to look back no farther than September to get a glimpse of Mr. Kucinich’s view of foreign policy. This is when Mr. Kucinich visited Syria while proclaiming that he refused to visit the troops in Iraq because of the “illegal” occupation of the country. The illegal occupation that was approved not only by the United Nations but also by the US Congress with a significant portion of his Democratic party voting in favor of.
Lets review Syria, the country he chose to visit instead of our troops in Iraq, or for that matter, Afghanistan, which has more public support and is therefore okay for the weak kneed Democrats to support. The government of Bashar Assad, President of Syria, is a sponsor of the terrorist organizations Hamas and Islamic Jihad, both of which are Islamic extremists responsible for the deaths of countless Israeli citizens. The government has been responsible for undermining the government of Lebanon and fomenting unrest in the country and has been strongly suspected of the assassination of Rafik Hariri, Prime Minister of Lebanon in 2005. Most importantly, Syria is suspected of supporting the insurgency in Iraq, leading to the deaths of the fellow soldiers of the very troops Mr. Kucinich refuses to visit. What is Mr. Kucinich’s take on all of this? He attacks George Bush for destabilizing the Middle East and praises the government of Syria for it’s policy of “strength through peace” in comments he made during his visit to Syria. It would be too easy to blame Mr. Kucinich’s comments on mental illness. It is my firm belief that while they likely are representative of a large part of the left, they still rise to the level of treason and should be treated as such. How this man is not the front-runner for the Democratic Presidential nomination astounds me.
I realize that I have digressed and this so far has not been the humorous part of the campaign. (I tend to have a focus problem sometimes and easily go off on tangents). We have now gotten word that the paragon of sanity, Shirley MacLaine, has written a book in which she says that while visiting her in the 1980’s Mr. Kucinich saw a UFO. Now, I am not going to argue whether there is “life out there”. I am by training a scientific minded person and I believe that from a purely statistical standpoint, there is likely other life in the vast and wondrous universe and some may be intelligent and capable of interstellar travel. With this said, the quote from the book “He felt a connection in his heart and heard directions in his mind” is a little, well, crazy. Lets just say that if you visited my Emergency Room and said that you had just seen a UFO and you “heard directions” in your mind, you would likely get placed on medication and get a short vacation some where. So, with Mr. Kucinich’s assertion that Mr. Bush is mentally unstable, let me be immature for a moment (my wife would say this is a natural state for me) and say, it takes one to know one. That’s what’s on my mind.
