Memorial Day Remembrances
By Brenda Hyde
Americans world-wide can join together by pausing for one
moment at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day to reflect on and remember
our fallen. I also think of our many allies and the men and
women they have lost. As we've seen over the last few years
especially, terrorism and war have caused pain and loss to
families throughout the world. Please pause today to pray
and remember those who have been lost. I thought the quotes
below were appropriate for the day:
“What does Memorial Day mean to you?” a little girl was asked.
“That’s the day the pool opens,” she replied.
How fortunate we are that the little girl may go to her pool. How
fortunate we are to be a nation of peace. How very blessed are
we all that veterans died to make this possible.
Let us remember. Let us put the “memorial” back into Memorial
Day. The tranquility we enjoy was purchased dearly. May we never
forget. -Boyd Lewis
A Nation reveals itself not only by the citizens it produces, but
also by the citizens it honors, the citizens it remembers.
~John F. Kennedy
The mystic cords of memory, stretching from every battlefield
and patriot grave to every living heart...should swell into a mighty
chorus of remembrance, gratitude and rededication on this
solemn occasion. ~Abraham Lincoln
