Who's the ACLU Looking Out For?
By Chuck Hyde, Editor of StandBesideHer.com
It seems that Charles Rust-Tierney, former president of the Virginia ACLU has been arrested for possession of on-line child pornography. It is reported that Mr. Rust-Tierney has downloaded pictures and videos of child pornography for years.
This helps explain the ACLU’s strong opposition to laws against child pornography over the years. It isn’t just about protecting these poor child molesters and purveyors of child pornography from the over-bearing government, it is also about self preservation.
The ACLU has a long history of protecting child molesters and child pornographers. In NY v Ferber, the ACLU argued that the possession of child pornography should be protected as a first amendment right. Their argument in this case was that while the production of child pornography could be outlawed, the sale and distribution of the material should be legalized under the principle of the first amendment protection of freedom of speech. This is one of the more ridiculous arguments I have heard. Clearly the real source of the problem in the child pornography industry is the consumer. While the producer of this filth is a low-life slime, he wouldn’t have an outlet for his sickening material if there were not people readily available to purchase it. Where there is a market, there will be someone willing to break the law and supply this market. I realize that even with laws against viewing child pornography we will still have the market. There will always be sick people who don’t care about the legality of their pursuit, they already have no moral conscience preventing them from doing this, so the law is irrelevant. Thanks to saner heads in the judiciary, a rare circumstance admittedly, the ACLU did not get it’s way and we can not only combat child pornography by going after the producer but also the consumer.
The ACLU is actively fighting against the passage of Jessica’s law in states around the country. Jessica’s law is named after Jessica Lunsford, a Florida girl who was kidnapped, raped, and murdered by a paroled sex offender. This law, in it’s various forms throughout the country, is an attempt to protect children. The ACLU is fighting the laws as overly broad and burdensome to the sexual predators. Call me crazy, but if I have to choose between the life and well being of a child and some sick creep who wants to prey on them, the child is going to win every time. I care very little about the rights of a man who spends his life targeting children. There has been some hope of passing a national form of Jessica’s law. These hopes may have been dashed with the election of a Democratic majority in Congress. Not only have the Democrats historically supported the ACLU but we now have a man in the Senate, Jim Webb (D), who has written child pornography. Asking him to fight child pornography is like asking, for instance, the former Virginia president of the ACLU to fight it.
Finally, probably one of my personal favorites of the ACLU is their defense of the NAMBLA organization. NAMBLA is the North American Man-Boy Love Association. This group advocates the practice of men having sex with boys as young as 8 years old. This is clearly nothing but a front for child molesters, and they promote their agenda in books and on the internet. The ACLU supports their right to spread this filth, again, because of the First Amendment. I guess in the twisted universe of the ACLU, child molesters warrant protection if they are sharp enough to organize themselves and come up with a good acronym.
So come on America, support your local ACLU, lets keep child pornography alive and well in our great country. That’s what’s on my mind.
