When Arlen Specter attacks a Democrat…
By Chuck Hyde, Editor of StandBesideHer.com
The congressional Democrats are all abuzz over the latest worst thing George Bush has ever done. Eight federal prosecutors were fired by the Justice Department. The Democrats in congress, not to be bothered by the fact that this was completely legal, are in full attack mode.
We have had Howard Dean, Chairman of the DNC, say this may be Bush’s Watergate. I have lost count on which “Bush’s Watergate” we are up to, there’s been so many. Senator Charles Schumer (D, NY), has been attacking Bush and is issuing subpoenas against Justice Department officials and six of the eight fired prosecutors. It is likely that next week he will also issue subpoenas against presidential advisor Karl Rove and former White House counsel Harriet Miers. The rumor that he is also going to issue a subpoena against Richard Nixon is as of yet not been substantiated.
Mr. Schumer and Mr. Dean have been attacking Bush for the politicization of the Justice department, while using this opportunity to raise campaign funds to attempt to free the country from this shameless politicization. Mr. Schumer is not only the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he is also Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and he is using information gathered during his investigation of the Judiciary Committee to solicit campaign funds on the website of the DSCC. I think that the Justice Department should investigate whether there is a conflict of interest here, just as soon as they hire more prosecutors. Meanwhile, Mr. Dean has been sending out e-mails asking for campaign funds citing the latest “Bush’s Watergate”. Thank goodness we have such pillars of righteousness to deliver us from the politicizing evils of the Republicans.
Finally, we have Senator Hillary Clinton, (D, NY). Where do I start? Ms Clinton has been attacking Bush for this scandal and if there is one thing Ms Clinton knows about, it is scandal. Ms Clinton criticized Mr. Bush even though her husband, President Bill Clinton, fired all 93 Federal Prosecutors upon taking office. It is not clear if she was criticizing Bush for the firing of the prosecutors, for not firing enough (he did only fire eight), or for taking six years to do it. Also, lets not forget the fact that Ms Clinton oversaw the firing of the employees of the White House travel office. Some of these employees had worked for the White House for decades and by all accounts did a good job. What was their firing offense? They had the audacity to be holding jobs that some of her friends from Arkansas wanted. Even Ms Clinton’s husband, former President Clinton, was shocked at this hypocrisy. Rumor is he was so shocked he stood up from his desk, bumped into his intern, and knocked her over backwards.
Things are so heated in Washington and have reached such a level of partisan acrimony that even Senator Arlen Specter (R, PA) criticized Mr. Schumer, making note of the fact that there may be a conflict of interest in Mr. Schumer chairing both the Judiciary committee and the DSCC. You know it’s bad when Mr. Specter is criticizing a fellow liberal. That’s what’s on my mind.
