Enjoy The Outdoors In Georgia
By G. Chadwick
Georgia has always inspired images of Southern hospitality, but
Georgia offers much more than that. In the state capital of
Atlanta there is the Atlanta History Center and the Stone
Mountain Park. In the southern parts of Georgia there is the
Ocmulgee National Monument and the Museum of History in Macon
and August respectively. There are many opportunities for
travelers staying in Georgia. Savannah offers a little know
Golden Islands off of coastal Georgia that has a very
semi-tropical paradise like atmosphere. To get to these items
you can take a ferry from Brunswick.
The state capital in Atlanta offers a very unique experience.
The city is both historical in nature while still remaining a
very contemporary city. There are many sites to visit and see
in Atlanta including the magnificent twenty-one acre Olympic
Park where the Summer Olympics was held in 1996. Atlanta also
offers planetarium shows at the Fernbank Science Center which
also has the Fernbank Natural History Museum on the same site.
Although if you are into history than an excellent place to
visit in Atlanta is the Martin Luther King Jr. National
Historic Site.
Near five million people travel to Savannah every year and it
is no wonder since it offers a wide selection of parks,
landmarks and attractions for the traveler. The best way to see
Savannah is by simply walking around the city although there is
also the option of taking a boat or trolley tour. A collection
of squares encompass a historic district in the downtown area.
This historic areas has been well preserved and is currently
one of the largest historic districts in the United States.
Savannah also offers an excellent selection of mansions and
museums to visit during your stay.
Atlanta and Savannah offer a great selection of hotels. In
Atlanta the best optin is the Ansely Inn which is a very nice
mansion that has been turned into a small scale European style
inn. This hotel is an excellent option for those who want first
rate accommodations, service and amenities for an affordable
price. In Savannah an excellent option is 17 Hundred 90 which
is one of the oldest inns in Savannah and is like a house
building in eighteenth century New England. Although the inn
has been said to be haunted, so if this isn't your type of
thing then you may want to look for another hotel. Although for
many individuals they won't stay anywhere else when visiting
Savannah.
No visit to Georgia is complete without visiting the
Chattahoochee National Park at least once. Driving U.S. Route
76 offers one of the best scenic routes in Georgia between
Ellijay and Clayton. This route started back in the twenties
and thirties when much of the land in this area was purchased
by the federal government. As a result today you can experience
a part of the southern Appalachian culture.
