![]() Hello, we are here to inform you about the colonial times. This is Samuel “I’m back from the Mental Institution” Liberty, I have been forced- I mean I decided to come back to be a writer again. So, unfortunately, this is yet another issue of the Colonial Chronicle. Now, it is time to get down to business. The Trading Deficit During the 1780’s, when the USA was still taking off there shoes, Britain has still left their soldiers inside the forts next to the Great Lakes. Not only that, but the British also were extremely slow in turning over there land to the US. There were more problems other than this though…. Actually, there is a depression stirring. The British closed many trading ports. Tariffs were also Crushing the economy. The State of the Economy: Not Very Good If this is not obvious to you, you’re an idiot! This is “Chuckles” reporting on depression and rebellion. Yeah! This thing called interstate commerce. This is trade between two states, or, in this case, no trade. The states “improvised” their own rules. Everybody was getting into stupid fights about trade. Idiots! Then, we started to print too much money. Smooth. It lowered the value of paper money a lot. This caused inflation- stuff is more expensive and money is worth crap. Congress couldn’t interfere and the Depression arrived. This is when nobody can get a job, and the economy is really poor. Meanwhile, the Massachusetts state government charged high taxes to pay off their very large debt after the war. A war they started, I might add. This caused a redneck farmer named Daniel Shays to get mad. He was tired of yelling “GET OFF MY LAWN!” at passersby and decided to stop high taxes and debt. He gained a brilliant plan: burn the courthouse. Is that all his mind could come up with? Well, since it was lead by bright minds such as him, Shays’s Rebellion didn’t last too long. In January 1787, rebels were caught, and several were hung. For some reason Shays survived. Ironic. Time to go ponder the meaning of life, the universe, and everything. Whoopee. This is Samuel “Ka-Ray-Z” Liberty, signing off for the Colonial Chronicle.
