The Redneck Agenda: War in the South

This is Samuel “Your Mom Goes to College” Liberty, senior writer of the Colonial Chronicle. This is the low down on the South during the Revolution.

Our pals, the Brits, have decided to recruit slaves and redneck loyalists into their army. The British generals swept through the countryside, taking no prisoners.

Patriots, led by Horatio Gates, tried to drive the British out of Camden, South Carolina. They were slaughtered, with only 700 out of 4000 men escaped alive.

Another Patriot leader, Francis Marion, was more successful. He organized Marion’s Brigade, a group of guerilla soldiers bent on British destruction. The guerillas attacked British in the South, gaining Marion’s nickname, the Swamp Fox.

War is Over

The war shall end, my son. No, joking, but the war will end. For now comes the Battle of Yorktown. The French Comte de Rochambeau led his soldiers to Yorktown to assist Washington in defeating the last British threat. They will take down General Cornwallis!

This battle was the last major battle of the Revolution. They captured Cornwallis and his 8,000 soldiers, the largest British army in America. The war is over.

Okay, not quite yet. Benjamin Franklin helped negotiate the Treaty of Paris of 1783. This is where the old guy (King George III) recognized the Independence of America. No more tea taxes!

This is Washington’s quote about the war’s end. “I… wish that your latter days be as prosperous as your former ones have been glorious.”

Guess what? I’ve just been fired. So, good bye, and, for the last time, this is Samuel “My Life is Over” Liberty, signing off.
