Snatching Defeat From The Jaws Of Victory
By Chuck Hyde, Editor of StandBesideHer.com

In yet another stunning show of support for the troops, Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D, NV) has announced that the Iraq war is lost. I am certain the troops can feel the love from half way around the globe. With this kind of support, who needs enemies.

In true Democratic logic, Reid came back later and explained that he meant we would lose the war if we continued fighting it. I know, I can’t understand it either. Must be those darn brain cells in my head. Reid’s original statement and his subsequent correction has naturally been met with condemnation from Republican’s. There has also been reaction from liberals like Arlen Specter (R, PA) and others.

To be fair Senator Specter did give a strong, for him, rebuttal to Reid’s comment on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace “And I think it's very destructive to say the war is lost in the context of where we are. Certainly, the war is not being won. But there are still some efforts being made to turn it around. And whether they're successful or not, we won't know.” Now I have to give Specter some credit, this is real harsh stuff for him to speak of a fellow liberal like this.

Specter wasn’t the only liberal to weigh in though, and some of them naturally were not critical of Reid. Barack Obama (D, IL) gave an arresting smile and explained how Bush’s Iraq policy has exacerbated the tensions in Iran, completely ignoring the fact that Iran is being run by an anti-semitic mad man and a group of hatred spewing Islamic ideologues. Oops, I’m sorry. I forgot that Islam is a misunderstood, peaceful religion. I guess I get confused with that whole terrorism thing.

Al Gore promptly gave a convoluted and, as usual suspect, explanation about how losing the Iraq war would effect global warming and rise sea levels in Iraq by 20 feet. When asked about the fact that Iraq is essentially land locked, Gore retorted that people are so wrapped up in facts that they are ignoring the message he is delivering. He then promptly flew off in a private jet for a series of flights around the world to give lectures on cutting back on travel to cut green house gases.

Hillary Clinton (D, NY), in her best fake southern drawl, condemned Bush’s lack of progress in Iraq and pined for the good old days of the phenomenal national policy successes during her husbands presidency. You can’t make this stuff up, although Hillary apparently can.

John Edwards interrupted his $4,000 Hollywood haircut to launch into a speech of the two America’s. When reminded that the discussion was about Iraq, Edwards then launched into a speech about rebuilding in Louisiana. After yet another gentle reminder, Edwards began attacking Wal-Mart and their abysmal treatment of their employees, at which point the reporter just gave up and walked away.

So there you have it. Once again the Democrats are showing a united front on their policy for Iraq. The only thing missing so far is John Murtha (D, PA) giving one of his stirring pep talks to the troops. That would complete their latest display of complete and total lack of concern for our brave men and women in harms way. Because, in the end, they cannot let the war on terror distract them from the more important war on George Bush. That’s what’s on my mind.
